Piazza Venezia is one of the most famous square in Eternal City, Rome. Located in the center of the city crosses many important streets in Rome: via del Corso(shopping street), via del Plebiscito and via dei Fori Imperiali. But piazza Venezia is famous mainly for the Victor Emmanuel II Monument, the highest point in Rome, which dominates all the square.

 

Victor Emmanuel II. Monument

This beautiful neo-classic building from white calcite is the biggest monument in Italy. The Victor Emmanuel II. Monument was build in 1455 by Paolo II. and it shall represent the reunification of Italy. Above the tomb of un-known soldier (from the I.World War), stands 12m high, golden bronze riding statue of Victor Emmanuel II, who was since 1861 the first king of united Italy.

 

The Panoramic Spectacular Terrace

Recently in the Victor Emmanuel II. Monument, was on 31rd May an inauguration of opening two new glass elevators (each with capacity 13 people), with it you can go within 35seconds up to the terace, where you can take the 360 degree view across the ancient Rome(Colosseum, Forum, Palatine, Castelli Romani). The inauguration were participated the president of Italy Giorgio Napolitano and Francesco Rutelli – the minister of culture.
